The original wild strain was found by my father Paul Gates growing on an elm stump surrounded by concrete in Detroit's Boston Edison historic district. This strain has been used in commercial production throughout the United States chosen for its fast growth rate, marketably mild flavor, and rich dark burgundy lacquer. Performs equally well for producing conks or antlers relative to co2 levels.
